Verantel and Blazeo, formerly ApexChat
ApexChat renamed itself Blazeo in March 2024. Blazeo staffs website chat and phone lines with live human agents who follow a script your firm sets. Verantel is an AI intake interviewer: it talks with the person who reaches your firm and writes up the matter for your attorneys.
At a glance
| Verantel | Blazeo | |
|---|---|---|
| Who talks with the prospective client | Verantel's AI interviewer, in a chat | Live human agents, around the clock, from a script, in English and Spanish. Blazeo also offers an AI chatbot. |
| What your firm receives | A written record of the matter, with each fact linked to the client's own words, and the full transcript | The lead's information from the agent. For law firms, Blazeo also lists retainer signing in the chat, connecting calls, and booking appointments. Its pages don't say whether firms receive the chat transcript. |
| Pricing | Free during the private beta | A monthly subscription. Managed chat starts "as low as $49/month," priced by your website's traffic, with each plan quoted by sales. Month to month. |
| Practice-management connection | None yet. Your firm reads each record on the Verantel dashboard, and can print it or save it as a PDF. | Connects to CRMs with an open API. Lead Docket lists ApexChat as an integration. |
| Where the data lives | A separate database for each firm, on Verantel's server or on a server your firm runs | Blazeo says it "processes and stores information collected during chat sessions." Its compliance page names no storage location. |
How they differ
Blazeo's agents read every conversation. On your own server, nobody outside your firm does. A prospective client who chats with Blazeo tells their story to Blazeo's staff. Verantel can run on a server your firm runs, and then the conversation never leaves your firm's server.
A script asks the same questions. An interviewer asks the next one. Blazeo's agents work from a script your firm writes. Verantel asks the next question when an answer points to a deadline, a claim against a government body, or evidence that may disappear, and it follows the client into their own language.
Blazeo hands over a lead. Verantel hands over the matter. Verantel's record lists the facts grouped by topic, each linked to the lines the client wrote. It also names each legal matter with its practice area and state, the people and organizations involved, and how well the matter fits your firm.
Blazeo answers phones and books appointments. Verantel doesn't. Verantel works in a chat on the web. It is not a lawyer and gives no legal advice.
Blazeo stopped charging per lead. Its 2024 announcement says it moved to a subscription "instead of a cost-per-lead model." Older reviews that quote a price per lead describe ApexChat before the change.
When each one fits
- Blazeo fits a firm that wants a person in the chat window and on the phone at all hours, and appointments booked for it.
- Verantel fits a firm that wants every prospective client interviewed in depth, a written record of each matter, and the option to keep every conversation on its own server.
